Did you have a “live” Christmas tree this year? If so, area cities and townships are gearing up to take them off your hands. Some will pick up at the curb or offer neighborhood drop off points. Most trees are recycled into mulch or compost. And some municipalities will do the work for you and let you take mulch home. What a deal! To see what your community is offering check out these links:

Bread goes quickly at our house. But it needs to be stored somewhere. We use a tupperware breadbox or just plain old plastic bread bags. These hold a 1.5# loaf of our favorite homemade wheat bread from the breadmaker. I can reuse them several times before throwing them away.
To keep homemade bread soft, remove from bread pan and let cool for about 30 minutes. Then place in breadbag or breadbox. Wait another 30 minutes and then slice. It’s easier to slice when cool. Also, don’t leave the bread out very long. Once the meal is over, or lunches made, put the bread back in it’s bag.

Easy Recycling — place a trash can or cardboard box right outside the door to the garage. Whenever you have recycling, it’s easy to open the door and toss it in. No shoes required.  Check with your local waste hauler or city hall about recycling efforts in your community.
If you’re in Greater Cincinnati, check out my quick tip about Rumpke.

Rumpke Drop Box Recycling
Don’t have the option for curbside recycling, or just don’t want to pay it? Check for a local drop off center. In Greater Cincinnati, Rumpke offers community drop-off bins. Look for one near where you live or work and drop off your recycling on the way to something else. Our dumpster is near school so I bring recycling with me when attending a school event. It’s an easy way to make a difference. Rumpke doesn’t require us to sort our recycleables.  And they accept a variety of materials including paper, cardboard, glass, metal cans, plastic bottles (#1 and #2).
If you live outside of the Cincinnati area call your waste hauler, city hall, or county offices and ask about recycling options in your community.
